decades”
- Chubb Rock, “Don’t Drink The Milk”

”Original, just myself /it wouldn't be right for me to be like anyone else”
- Ed O.G., “Dedicated To The Right Wingers”
Psychiatrists tells us that childrens learning happens through imitation of the parents. And also as grown-ups most of our deeds and thoughts are imitations of others.
This is also what happens when MTV and the rest of the media-bombardment are offering their version of how to talk, think and especially look.
But in hiphop the b-boy is called upon to create his/hers version of what already exists.
Its got to be new - its got to be FRESH.
Members of Freestyle Phanatix has served their time learning, copying and perfectioning the different techniques of b-boying.
In the new millenium its about showing the world these dancers original and personal styles. Freestyle Phanatix has individually, and collectively, contributed to creating a scandinavian style, a style which is not just another unsharp black-white copy of the american icons.
Since 1993 Freestyle Phanatix has expanded doing events, shows,
battles, workshops and theatre performances which has brought streetdance
onto the stages of 'finer culture'. In new contexts Freestyle Phanatix
are holding on to their roots.
”I ain’t tryin’ to change you, just give you some game /
to make the transition from the street to the fame”
- Jay-Z, “Blueprint”
Clumsy Hans stepped right in from the street to the Royals and
made it there with his wit, eagerness and talents. Streetdance has
done the same and kicked in the doors to the theatres. Now it is
there together with Social Realism and Shakespeare.
Snobs could make jokes about the braincells you lose by spinning
on your head, but Freestyle Phanatix has proved to possess both
body and brains as self-taught choreographers, scriptwriters and
directors. Freestyle Phanatix Street-background has forced them
to work even harder, and has given their performances an edge and
sharpness which the establishment has been forced to recognized.
”Teach the children! If you do not teach them, they will not know!”
- Sister Souljah, “Umbilical Chord To The Future”
Kids fascination on breakdance makes it a strong tool in activating and educating kids on the value of physical expression. Also; the hip-hop culture is build upon a set of positive values which the kids can reflect upon and learn from. Freestyle Phanatix becomes natural rolemodels for the kids.
Phanatix work and philosophy contains a message about making friends
and relating to other people in a positive way despite cultural
differences and the color of the skin. Our project is to get (especially)
the kids to put their energy into dance . We experience that the
diffuse agressivity can be transformed into a positive, creative
and giving way of expression. Instead of hurting eachother, you
can ‘fight’ with dance. We have seen positive results
through our work and we always experience a great interest for our
dance culture. And we do the impossible: making the boys want to
dance!
”This is called the show”
– Doug E. Fresh, “The Show”
Freestyle Phanatix have performed in many contexts: conferences, fashionshows, awardshows, hip-hop jams, commercials, television, musik-acts etc…
And pop-stars has hired Freestyle Phanatix as 'anonymous' back-up dancers only to see them steel all the attention....!
Phanatix lack of ability to be invisible, they always reaches beyond
the stage and always move the crowd, no matter who they perform
for.
“You wanna battle me anytime, anywhere”
- Vanilla Ice, “Play That Funky Music”
The hip-hop culture is the starting point and ’home’
of Freestyle Phanatix. They participate in
events and battles throughout Europe. They won the Nordic Championships
in Oslo 2002 and Swedish Championships in 2004 and are the leading
crew in Scandinavia.
Freestyle Phanatix plays an important role in the hiphop-culture
by organizing events. Especially the event CIRCLE
SENSATION, which is held in Cirkusbygningen, Copenhagen every
year.
